Self Portrait

Fried Green Tomatoes

Another beautiful day in Hawaii Nei.
Fried Green Tomatoes at the farmers market.
It just doesn't get any better than this.
Well, maybe some kettle corn
and Ka'u's Natural Beef burger are a close second.
The sun shining, the lines short
and the kids playing in the blow up bouncers.
The fried green tomatoes weren't the slightest bit tart.
Crispy on the outside, moist and juicy on the inside.
Two dollars cheaper than the KCC farmers market.
Cant beat that.

One Down, Two to Go!

One of the three things that I look forward to when visiting the island of Oahu.
Only two more things on my "must-have" list.

the Graduate

Congradulations my Kristina.
I love you and am so very proud
of the woman you have become.

Trial and Error

Trial and error.
Story of my life.
If at first you don't succeed, try try again.

I am slowly making friends with my camera. Learning about its ins and outs. I'll be the first to admit, its going to take some time. Some getting use to... but Ive got the best canvas in the world, and well, Ive got nothing but time.

Online Check-In

You can check in online for your pending flight up to 24hrs prior. The only thing with that you still have to find the gate number.  Thats Hawaii for you. Ive got my ticket, and since I am only going overnight, I am only bringing a carry on. Checking in luggage cost money, and takes up too much time. Besides, Im not doing much, and so I wont need a lot of clothes... even thou I dont know what I am going to wear to the Graduation. Can I wear the same thing to the graduation party to church on Sunday morning? You're right, (I can hear mom in my head) no, I cant. Too many people from the night before will be in service the next morning. But if I plan it right, I can wear my Sunday suit on the plane home. Comfortable is the key word here. Now I have to screen my closet and see what Ive got worth wearing. See if it even fits. Then a quick jump in the shower, because my flight is so early in the morning, I dont think that I will get the chance to do so since I am a big "sleep" person, I just might miss my flight. So I better get a move on since its late and I have to get on with it. Im such a procrastinator these days. It will be nice to have all my siblings under one roof again. Last time we were all together, was, well... my little sisters wedding, back in March. Twice in the same year, I guess thats not that bad. Ive got my camera charging, so dont worry babe, Ive got picture coming for you.  Hawaiian Airlines, Flight HA107 L departing KOA (Kona International Airport) at 6:13 am. Now if only I had me a gate number, Id be all set.

My Day in the Sun

Although my pictures came out beautiful and I enjoyed my three hour conversation with my hubby at the beach, I probably should have put him on hold to apply more sunscreen. I will spare you those photos.

It was a wonderful day.
Hubby made me laugh and it was almost as thou he was there.
Almost.
Except he couldn't see the porpoises frolicking in the distance,
or the turtle surfing the wave.
He could hear the waves crashing and we agreed it was calling him home.

Come home my love, more than the ocean miss you,
and there is more to this island than surf and sand.

True Panoramic

This is as country as it gets...

Cant wait to try out this feature on some of the
most beautiful scenery of my home land.

Skies the Limit

I will be the first one to admit that I am trigger happy... and these two are my objects of affection and my most favorite thing (people) to shoot. When they are older they will appreciate it... but for now, well, its all about having fun! Ive had the camera in their face all their life... they are so use to it. I cant help it, Ive created little hams, and I love LOVE love it. I wish that I had the knowledge of some of the useful photo sites that I use (on a daily basis) then as I do now. Ive lost so many precious photos due to malfunction and computer (user) error. You just cant get those moments back.

So I encourage you to snap away... then upload them... and snap some more. I wish that I had a ton of pictures (now) to finger thru of my childhood... but being the fourth child, there really isn't that many photos of me... so I'm making up for it. My children can thank me later.

Now that my hubby has replaced my lost camera with a new and improved version, the best is yet to come. Not that I didn't appreciate your camera (thanks Mom) but it lacked some very basic (useful and fun) features that I am dying to try out with my new camera. I will share them with you as they come. I'm so very excited! Thanks for the love and check back for more!

"D"

Today was the first time it ever crossed my mind.

Come out, moon
Come out, wishing star
Come out, come out
Wherever you are

I'm out here in the dark
All alone and wide awake
Come and find me

I'm empty and I'm cold
And my heart's about to break
Come and find me

I need you to come here and find me
'Cause without you I'm totally lost

I've hung a wish on ev'ry star
It hasn't done much good so far
I can only dream of you
Wherever you are

I'll hear you laugh
I'll see you smile
I'll be with you

Just for a while

But when the morning comes
And the sun begins to rise
I will lose you
Because it's just a dream

When I open up my eyes
I will lose you

I used to believe in forever
But forever's too good to be true

I've hung a wish on ev'ry star
It hasn't done much good so far
I don't know what else to do
Except to try to dream of you

And wonder if you're dreaming too

Wherever you are
Wherever you are

Poolside

I love this picture.
Its a shot of my niece.
Shes a twin.
5 months old.

There is just something a little more interesting in underwater photos.
Something that captures your eye, and imagination.

I dont get to see these little gems often,
but whenever I do, its a treat.
Hali'a and Amelia
are the first set of twins on this side of the family tree.

Princess Ka'iulani ... the movie.

Princess Ka'iulani

A Day Late

When my husband asked me, "where do I send the flowers?" I informed him that I was not his mother, and thus he should not be sending me flowers. I was very clear about it too. After all, he is five thousand miles away, so I insisted that does not send me flowers.

No flowers came.

Then today, there is a envelope in the mail...with a card in it,
but not for me, for MY mother.
Included in the over sized envelope was this (above)
A picture of the flower (plant) he gave HIS mother.

When he called this evening, I asked him if my card had gotten lost in the mail. HE said he thought I didn't want a card... a card in the mail, and flowers delivered to an empty house are two different things.

"I cant win, you'd be mad if I sent flowers, now you're mad I didn't send a card."

Hope your card is lovely mom.
Happy Belated Mothers Day.

update: turnes out that even this (above) wasnt intended for me. =(

5/14/2010 this was in the mail for me along with my real present

untitled

I like strolling thru the different blogs, and "following" ones that spark my interest. I just figure that if they have something interesting to say now... they will probably have something fairly interesting to say later, and I want to read about it then... or at least have the option to.

Then there are those that spark my interest, and then I lose the url before I get a chance to follow it. I have been watching this one blog for a while now, just waiting for another post... not a thing for weeks now. Makes me wonder whats going on with them. Funny actually being concerned about blogger strangers. Hey, they're people too right?

Its those ones that say, "sorry I haven't blogged in so long, blah blah blah," as thou they are obligated to blog. Yes, you are letting me down by not blogging. Ha ha. Life goes on if you don't blog. A tad bit more boring, but it leaves room for new blogs to be added to my list.

Right now I have a about a dozen. Mostly for entertainment purposes only. Something to do to pass the time. A  little tidbit into someone elses life. Makes you feel connected in someway. Maybe they're right, its is a small world after all. Makes you wonder about the whole, six degrees of separation thing. Could we all really be that connected in this great big world? If that's true, why are so many people so lonely and depressed. Are we not surrounded by interesting and entertaining people all the time.

Have you ever "people watched".  A favorite past time I'm sure. All the people passing by, with lives and worries all their own. Watching buses and planes, wishing that I could just hop on one and go where ever it leads. Talk to the stranger next to me, and learn something new in this life. No one really takes the time anymore. Always somewhere to be, something to do. Watching the clock is one of the most hated things to do. Time watching only makes you wish for more hours in the day.

So I'm taking time today... to reach out and connect with someone. Connect on a real level. Asking more than just how their day is going. How is your life going? Whats new in your world? Send me your address, I will send you a postcard. Life's too short to be so damn busy.

Call me, we'll do lunch... or at least a stroll in the park. I will tell you about my yesterdays, you tell me about your tomorrows. We'll live to die another day.

May Day 2010

In Hawaii, May Day is also known as Lei Day, and is normally set aside as a day to celebrate island culture in general and native Hawaiian culture in particular. While it was invented by a poet and a local newspaper columnist in the 1920s, it has since been adopted by state and local government as well as by the residents, and has taken on a sense of general spring celebration there. The first Lei Day was proposed in 1927 in Honolulu. Leonard "Red" and Ruth Hawk composed "May Day is Lei Day in Hawai'i," the traditional holiday song. Originally it was a contemporary fox trot, later rearranged as the Hawaiian hula song performed today.

Today, traditionally, the children dance a hula by grade level in school. This is my little guy.
